The Erdős-turán Problem in Infinite Groups

چکیده
Let G be an infinite abelian group with |2G| = |G|. We show that if G is not the direct sum of a group of exponent 3 and the group of order 2, then G possesses a perfect additive basis; that is, there is a subset S ⊆ G such that every element of G is uniquely representable as a sum of two elements of S. Moreover, if G is the direct sum of a group of exponent 3 and the group of order 2, then it does not have a perfect additive basis; however, in this case there is a subset S ⊆ G such that every element of G has at most two representations (distinct under permuting the summands) as a sum of two elements of S. This solves completely the Erdős-Turán problem for infinite groups. It is also shown that if G is an abelian group of exponent 2, then there is a subset S ⊆ G such that every element of G has a representation as a sum of two elements of S, and the number of representations of non-zero elements is bounded by an absolute constant.

On a conjecture of Erdős and Turán for additive basis
An old conjecture of Erdős and Turán states that the representation function of an additive basis of the positive integers can not be bounded. We survey some results related to this still wide open conjecture.
متن کاملErdős-turán Type Inequalities
Denoting by (rn)n≥1 the increasing sequence of the numbers p with p prime and α ≥ 2 integer, we prove that rn+1 − 2rn + rn−1 is positive for infinitely many values of n and negative also for infinitely many values of n. We prove similar properties for r n−rn−1rn+1 and 1 rn−1 − 2 rn + 1 rn+1 as well.
متن کاملSquares from Blocks of Consecutive Integers : a Problem of Erdős and Graham
In this paper, we construct, given an integer r ≥ 5, an infinite family of r non-overlapping blocks of five consecutive integers with the property that their product is always a perfect square. In this particular situation, this answers a question of Erdős and Graham in the negative.

We prove a subtle “one-sided” improvement of a classical result of P. Erdős and P. Turán on the distribution of zeros of polynomials. The proof of this improvement is quite short and rather elementary. Nevertheless it allows us to obtain a beautiful recent result of V. Totik and P. Varjú as a simple corollary, and in a somewhat stronger form, without any use of a potential theoretic machinery. ...

In this paper, we investigate infinite product representation of the solution of a Sturm- Liouville equation with an indefinite weight function which has two zeros and/or singularities in a finite interval. First, by using of the asymptotic estimates provided in [W. Eberhard, G. Freiling, K. Wilcken-Stoeber, Indefinite eigenvalue problems with several singular points and turning points, Math. N...
